” I am student in DIT studying tourism marketing. In January 2019 I took part in a 6 month marketing internship in O’Callaghan collection as part of my 3rd year studies. I was working with the marketing team which is led by Stephanie Higgins and two other team members Chloe and Susan.
My internship gave me the opportunity to receive social media strategy training and training from the marketing team on website content, the use and writing of blog posts, booking engines and an insight to the diversity of a marketing team. Every day was unique and exciting with many different projects and events taking place each day such as photoshoots, influencer stay’s, advertising opportunities and PR that the marketing department would deal with.
The O’Callaghan collection team made it a great place to work and be creative. Everybody was friendly and welcoming which created a great working environment. The marketing team was encouraging and took the time to teach and mentor. Weekly marketing meetings were held, tasks would be discussed and updated along with brainstorming were we were encouraged to be creative and voice any ideas.
During my internship I was lucky to have the opportunity to work on the development of newly renovated Mont hotel. I got the chance to be creative and input into the concept and see the creation of a new marketing plan from social media, awareness, PR and website development, it was a busy and exciting time in the marketing department.
I learnt a lot in my internship and put a lot of my tourism marketing studies and understanding into practice especially my understanding and importance of team member dynamics and HR. My internship gave me time to reflect on the work done in marketing that I really enjoyed and I hope to continue in this field after I complete my studies.”
