With history, culture and some of that famous Irish charm, Dublin is the ideal place to visit in 2017. Whether you are looking for an adventure or you just want to explore such a vibrant and diverse city, you will find plenty of things to do in Dublin:
Attractions
It would be impossible to list all of the attractions which Dublin offers but whether you are interested in the city’s history, the culture of Ireland, or a more contemporary option there are plenty of attractions to choose from. Some of our top recommendations include Phoenix Park which is the largest city park in Europe, the National Museums of Ireland, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College Dublin and a tour of the Guinness Storehouse which not only includes a complimentary pint of the black stuff but is also home to a rooftop terrace from which you can experience an amazing 360 panoramic view across the city.
Shopping
Markets, boutique stores and designer brands can all be found in the city if you want to enjoy a little retail therapy when in Dublin. Some of the more popular markets include Temple Bar Food Market, Dublin’s famous Ha’Penny Flea Market and Liberty Market. Less than 15 minutes walk from The Mont Hotel Dublin you will also find Dublin’s famous shopping strip, Grafton Street, which is home to some of Ireland’s iconic businesses such as Weir & Sons and Brown Thomas as well as being home to some truly stunning historical buildings.
The Countryside
Even if you are staying somewhere central such as The Alex Hotel Dublin it can be worth venturing outside of the city to explore some of the beautiful surrounding countrysides. There are a number of self-guided walks you can take including the Black Linn Loop which takes you through Howth Head, a bustling village which is also home to a number of attractions including Howth Castle, the National Transport Museum and Baily Lighthouse. Other great hikes include The Pathway Porter and The Royal Canal Way.
The Nightlife
One of the biggest draws for visitors coming to Dublin is to experience some authentic Dublin nightlife by visiting the many bars and pubs which can be found across the city. The area around Temple Bar is a particular favourite with tourists although if you want to find where the locals hang out then you will need to head away from the main tourist areas and try to uncover a hidden gem or two, of which there are plenty in the city. Many of the pubs also offer live music so you can discover some traditional Irish music whilst you are enjoying a night out.
Tours
First-time visitors to the city, or those who just want a more in-depth look at some of the main attractions might find a tour of the city useful. There are a number of companies offering tours from walking tours to the Viking Splash tours which use a vehicle from the Second World War capable of navigating both land and water.
